20% OF DOGS ARE STICKIES STUCK IN KENNELS Dogs Trust appeals on behalf of its overlooked dogs
20% of the dogs currently at Dogs Trust’s West London centre in Harefield are classed as ‘sticky’, meaning they have been in kennels for six months or more waiting to find a new home. The rehoming centre is making an appeal on behalf of its stickies, to see if they can be ‘unstuck’!
Dogs can become sticky for a variety of reasons. Some have medical conditions requiring ongoing treatment and older dogs are often harder to rehome. Many just need a specific type of home like Luke, a Collie currently at the centre, or owners with time to work on behaviour issues, as is the case with Golden Retriever Lollipop.
Richard Moore, Dogs Trust centre manager, said:
“Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder there are some dogs we know will ‘fly out’ of our rehoming centres. Those dogs that fit people’s idea of what a rescue dog should look like – a scruffy, medium sized crossbreed with a cheeky look will always find a home quickly.
“Some dogs have very specific needs, so only people with a certain home and lifestyle would make suitable owners. However many dogs behave differently in kennels to outside. Some hide so people can’t see them, while others bark, making potential owners think they’re noisy, when in fact they’re quiet and calm out of the kennel. This sort of thing can really affect a dog’s chances of being rehomed.
“But we believe there’s an owner for every dog and vice versa, so we’re giving our sticky dogs and extra push!”
Dogs Trust Harefield is urging people looking for a canine companion to consider a sticky dog. Two sticky dogs looking for a second chance are Luke and Lollipop:
 Luke
Lovely Luke is a 14 month old tri coloured Collie who is very unhappy in kennels. He’s looking an active home and can live with older teenage children. Luke is a very bright dog who loves to be outdoors and kept busy.
 Lollipop
Gorgeous Golden Retriever Lollipop is only four. Despite her stunning looks, because she needs ongoing training, she is struggling to find a home. An adult only home is being sought with experienced dog owners, willing to dedicate time to working on Lolli’s behaviour.
