The Road Traffic Act 1988

It is an offence to have a dog on a designated road without a lead.

Dogs in vehicles must not be a nuisance or distract the driver when on a journey.

If a dog is injured in a car accident, the driver must stop and give his details to the owner or report the incident to the police within 24 hours if there is no person in charge.
