The Dog Owner's Competence Test

And so it comes round again, like a merry-go-round, the typical Government line:  The DDA isn’t working, so it must be amended. The way to do this isn’t to remove parts of the law, it’s to toughen them and then penalise responsible, law-abiding dog owners by adding yet more bureaucracy and yet more taxation.

There’s a very simple answer to all of this anyway: It won’t happen. With a General Election just weeks away, there won’t be the time for any new legislation, let alone money in the coffers. And with a new Government being a distinct likelihood, the proposals will almost surely be scrapped or put on hold indefinitely. The Conservatives have made it clear that they do not favour breed specific legislation or taxing responsible dog owners.

So in short, it sounds good, it shows the Government “is doing something”, but ultimately, they’re doing nothing and it’ll come to nothing.

Again.
