1.
Never leave a dog in a parked car on a hot day even for only a short time.

2.
If you must leave your dog in the car on cooler days, park in the shade, leave a few windows ajar and don’t lock the car – at least someone can rescue the dog if necessary.

3.
Do not make a dog wear a muzzle as this will restrict panting.

4.
Dogs with predisposing conditions such as old age, obesity and respiratory or heart disease should be kept in the shade and not exercised during the heat of the day.

5.
Always provide access to clean fresh drinking water.

6.
When leaving your dog in the house ensure that the room is cool and shady.

7.
On hot days wet your dog with the hose pipe or allow it to go swimming.

8.
Use fans to cool a dog down during very hot weather.

9.
Never exercise your dog during the hottest part of the day.

10.
With long haired breeds such as Old English Sheepdogs or Golden retrievers, cut their fur short for the summer – they may look strange but they will be so much cooler.
