![]() Straight talking animal behaviour consultant, Debbie Connolly, who is a regular on TV and Radio, is probably best known for her appearance in the BBC 3 show ‘Dog Borstal’ and ‘Britain’s Most Embarrassing Pets’. With 30 years experience in pet behaviour, Debbie is a behaviour consultant for Bengal Cat Rescue and Zep the Dep Rottweiler Rescue and is an Associate Member of the British Institute of Professional Trainers. Debbie founded her own company called SafePets UK who not only treat dogs, cats and horses but also goats, pigs and other livestock! Like London Dog Forum, Debbie has a keen interest in the human/dog relationship and believes that animals can influence our lives in a very positive way. With this in mind and using her own experience of working with disadvantaged youths and people with disabilities, Debbie instigated Canine Assisted Learning featuring courses for young people to work with animals and train rescue dogs with the aim to improve their self confidence and learn methods of control rather than aggression. Multi-talented Debbie is a regular contributor to several dog magazines and therefore we are delighted and honoured to have her as our monthly feature writer on London Dog Forum. Jane Common, Journalist ![]() Jane with Attlee Jane Common is freelance journalist with 15 years experience, She has written for Cosmopolitan, Red, Daily Star, & Real People. Jane has just launched a new dog travel website - www.phileasdogg.com - and takes great pleasure researching with her Jack Russell terrier, Attlee. Kate Bendix ![]() Kate was formerly a BBC TV producer who made food and science based programmes, among other things, and has always been interested in what goes into our human food and the interaction between conventional and alternative medicines and therapies. Her stance is people and animals should be free to use whatever works for them; if I've broken a leg I'm going to hospital, if I've put my back out it's the osteopath and a mental pledge to get off my backside and do more pilates. Equally, if I eat rubbish I will feel like rubbish and my body will let me know it doesn't appreciate the rubbish I'm piling into it! So why should it be any different with our pets? Kate believes that vets, proper, healthy pet food and natural treatments for dogs and cats that work can rub along together. Equally, there's no room for quackery, just good old fashioned research and a common sense approach to animal health and welfare. Kate started her business three years ago when the family Bedlington, Ronnie (the one on the right in the photo) developed a flea allergy which no one seemed to be able to treat, except with steroids, which surpressed the symptoms for a short while without actually treating the allergy. We wanted high quality pet supplements and great food but it was a real problem finding natural products for skin conditions all in one place even three years ago, hence MyItchyDog came into the world in 2009 and has been growing ever since. |
