Review by Andi Godfrey

A ‘tailwaggingly’ good book that could only written by an author with a true gift for narrative!

All dog related clichés aside, this is one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in a long time, and is a must for any dog owner.  The author is Bo, a one-foot-ten, 63 pound retriever/chow cross who tells his story of being rescued from the pound in ‘upstate New York’ by a young couple who have a bag load of love to give but are totally inexperienced in matters canine.

It is difficult to imagine that life from a mutt’s point of view could be so engaging but Bo’s frequent misdemeanours and penchant for ‘kitty snickers’ (you’ll have to read the book to find out what they are!) will have you in stitches from start to finish.  But there is much more to this book than a dog’s passion for chasing wildlife.  It tells the story of a young couple embarking on married life and learning the true meaning of the marriage vows ‘for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health’.

It is a tale so affectionately  written that the reader can only warm to this zany family, which consists of Bo’s ever-loving, scatty ‘mother’ who is no Betty Crocker in the kitchen department, a hard-working ‘father’ who tries hard to bring some sanity to the family with little success, a cat-collecting ‘aunt’, doting ‘grandparents’ and, not forgetting, Bo’s closest companions Mousse, the constipated cat and Copper, a ridgeless Rhodesian ridgeback with a propensity for passing wind.

I challenge anyone who has read this book not to fall deeply in love with Bo who wavers between Deputy Dawg, Humphrey Bogart, and Bernard Shaw and I will eat a ‘kitty snicker’ if you don’t laugh out loud.

My message to all dog lovers is make sure to pack this book in your holiday luggage, and my advice is never give your dog the password of your computer unless you wish the whole world to know of your shortcomings!

This is Bo’s first book but he has established himself as a popular blogger on
www.BoKnowsOnline.

Bo's family favour the smaller animal rescue centres as that is where funds are most needed to continue their wonderful work.

This review finishes with a message from Bo to the people of the world:
“Run, don’t walk, to the nearest animal rescue group and adopt a loving canine in need (as a fallback position, adopt a cat). Only kidding, every house needs a cat too.  Not only will they save a life, but in the process they’ll create a better one for themselves.”
