ASA Verdict on Marmite Ad is Like It

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld the Marmite ad saying that it is clearly “light-hearted” and was “unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence”.

The commercial came under criticism following 500 complaints from animal lovers whose views of the ad ranged from being “in bad taste” to “thoroughly offensive”.

Unilever who are the makers of Marmite tried to appease the situation by offering a donation to the RSPCA of £18,000.

The ASA ruled that the ad was harmless fun and that no further action would be taken.
